Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, Shayla is the Founder and Managing Attorney of The Waldon Law Firm, PLLC, where she partners with businesses large and small to provide timely and valuable advice to clients across different parts of the country on employment and business law issues.
After graduating magna cum laude from University of Miami School of Law, Shayla spent time in BigLaw where she provided employment advice and handled employment-related litigation for business clients in a variety of industries, from manufacturing to banking, and from hospitality to non-profits. Throughout that time, Shayla amassed experience in working with human resources and other professionals to draft multi-state employee handbooks and drug-testing policies, employment agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, separation agreements, and compensation plans. Along with her drafting experience, she acts as a strategic partner to assist her clients with developing plans for mitigating their risk for discrimination and retaliation claims, as well compliance with statutes such as the ADA, FLSA, and FMLA. In fact, one of Shayla’s favorite parts of her employment practice is training clients on legal compliance and encouraging them as they create inclusive work environments for their employees. Emphasizing the human element of employment law, she assists clients with their anti-discrimination and harassment training, including sexual harassment training, across the jurisdictions where they operate.
In addition to her employment law experience, Shayla has niche experience with advising clients regarding the ADA’s public accommodation obligations, particularly accessibility requirements for public transportation, websites, and various forms of electronic media. Whether she’s consulted before or after a lawsuit is filed, Shayla provides her clients with practical advice that they often can implement right after the meeting ends.
When she is not lawyering, Shayla enjoys live music in the South Florida area, and on occasion, has been known to pick up a microphone for a karaoke night with friends.
